If
you are daunted by writing ad copy, take heart - writing your classifieds
gets easier the more you post. Check out the competition on the Classified
sites, and you will probably be disgusted with all the hype (we are!).
You can do better.
We recommend you approach the process almost as if you were marketing
to a friend. Don't bash them over the head with ADVERTISING, but instead,
make them a heartfelt offer they can't refuse.
Here's how to do it in 5 easy steps:
1.
DEFINE
Be
clear on what you want your ad to accomplish. DON'T try and sell your
offer directly from the ad. DO get them to respond and either email
you, call you, or visit .
2.
TARGET
Know
your audience, the people who are most interested in your offer. The
more you know about them, the better able you will be to sell. You
talk to different people in different ways. Make sure you speak the
same language as your target audience.
3.
BAIT
Know
the HOT BUTTONS - the words, ideas, concepts, interest areas most
likely to intrigue your target audience. This is so easy to do on
the Web, because all you have to do is visit http://www.dogpile.com,
input a keyphrase and research your competition. Nothing like visiting
top competition to know exactly how your target audience thinks.
4.
SWITCH
Borrow
concepts and ideas, and use them as the jumping off place to develop
your own. Don't be afraid to copy others, but do make them personal
to you and your goals. Here's how:
- list words for your offer
- list phrases for your offer
- list concepts for your offer
And voila! You suddenly become your own ad agency. Take these words
and phrases and distill them into a tight headline and 25 word ad.
The first 3 words of your ad are the most potent, so use the most
powerful HOT BUTTON words first.
5.
TEMPLATE
Your
classified ad must have the following:
- a strong, attention-grabbing headline (HOT BUTTON words)
- a reason for your potential customers to take notice (HOT BUTTON
words)
- a call to action (your free Advert 2-Step report)
- an email address (you can also include your phone number and/or
Web site)
